Helideck Winterization

//

Helidecks on vessels or platforms operating in sub zero conditions need to be kept snow and ice free for safe helicopter landings and crew changes. Therefore we can equip the helideck landing circle, whole pancake or even the piping and access system with electrical heat tracing to prevent snow and ice building up.

Aluminum conducts heat better than any other common metal. It is about three times as thermal conductive as steel. Self regulating electrical heating cables are integrated in the aluminum planking profiles. The cables are routed to the junction boxes installed on the center support beams of the helideck, therefore they can be accessible from the under deck gangway.

We have already equipped many helidecks with heat tracing for Drillships and Semi-subs, for e.g. Seadrill, Stena Drilling, and Odfjell Drilling.

Currently we are supplying the helideck for Stena Drillmax Ice, a polar class 6 drillship. The helideck will be heat traced and able to keep it ice free at -30 degrees Celsius.

Winterization by means of electrical heat tracing is not possible on steel helidecks.
